The 31st death anniversary of Asom Pran Harendra Nath Baruah, a renowned journalist and freedom fighter of Assam will be observed on 31st of August at Vivekananda Kendra Auditorium, Uzan Bazar, Guwahati at 4:00pm.
The memorial lecture will be delivered by well known journalist and MP (Rajya Sabha) Padmabhushan Swapan Dasgupta on the topic, “Assam Problems Are India’s problems.”
The programme will be presided by Padmashri Shri. D.N. Bezbaruah. Padmashri Shri. P.G. Baruah, Proprietor “Tribune Group” and Shri. Jayanta Baruah, Proprietor “Sadin- Pratidin Group” will be felicitated by the H.N. Baruah Memorial Trust at the meeting.
For the people of Assam, Harendra Nath Baruah, needs no introduction. He never comprised with his pen. And he never succumbed to any political pressure. Asompran Harendra Nath Baruah is described as a true nationalist, a freedom fighter, fearless journalist, social crusader. He strove not just for geographical integrity, but, most of all, for the cultural, traditional and emotional integrity of the entire Northeast.
Doyen of Assamese journalism Harendra Nath Barua’s book Reflections on Assam, 1944-1983 is a remarkable contribution to the society. He was the editor of “Natun Asomiya” a newspaper in Assam.
