Police delves into Biswas background: Assam Tribune

Assam Tribune, GUWAHATI, March 11 – Subodh Biswas, the prime accused in instigating people, which led to violence in Silapathar area in Dhemaji district, was in touch with leaders of different political parties seeking help for the cause of the Hindu migrants from Bangladesh.
Highly placed security sources told The Assam Tribune that in recent years, Biswas met not only the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but also leaders of other political parties, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Biswas had the habit of taking photos with the political leaders he met and the security agencies have his pictures with leaders of different parties.

According to inputs gathered by the security agencies about Biswas, his parents had come from Bangladesh and settled down in West Bengal. Though the date in which his parents crossed over to India is not yet ascertained, it is believed that they came after the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.

However, from a young age Subodh was in Nagpur and he runs a Unani medicine chamber there. For quite some time, he along with his associates has been fighting for the rights of the Hindu Bengali migrants and visited different parts of the country to gather support for their cause. That is how he was in touch with senior political leaders seeking their support.

Sources said that the whereabouts of Subodh are not yet known though the Assam Police has issued a lookout notice for him. The allegation against him was that the provocative speech that he gave in the meeting in Silapathar led to the tension and violence in the area. “We still do not know whether he is still hiding in Assam or managed to escape,” sources admitted. It may be mentioned here that the government has also announced a cash reward for anyone providing information about Subodh.

Sources further revealed that apart from Subodh, several persons from outside the State had also attended the meeting in Silapathar. According to information available, several persons from Kolkata and even from Rajasthan attended the meeting.
